James Canty is an orthopaedic knee and hip surgeon with national and international experience.
He has a broad range of orthopaedic practice, including the management of hip and knee arthritis, soft tissue and reconstructive surgery of the knee as well as general orthopaedic trauma.
James graduated from the University of Melbourne with a medical degree in 2001. After a number of years of surgical experience, he completed specialist training in orthopaedics through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in Victoria. James subsequently undertook two internationally regarded orthopaedic fellowships. The first was in Melbourne, working under the guidance of Mr. John Bartlett, where he focused on all aspects of knee surgery. He then spent twelve months working in Oxford (UK) in the Hip and Knee Unit of the renowned Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre.
In addition to his practice at OrthoSport Victoria, James holds a public appointment at Monash Health that allows him to be involved actively in orthopaedic research and training future orthopaedic surgeons.
James is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and has memberships with the Australian Orthopaedic Association, Girdlestone Orthopaedic Society, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery, and Orthopaedic Sports Management.
