Soong Chua is a Melbourne orthopaedic surgeon specialising in arthroscopic and joint replacement surgery of the shoulder, knee and elbow.
He has a particular interest in arthroscopic rotator cuff surgery, robotic total shoulder replacement and robotic knee replacement surgery.
Born and raised in Melbourne, Soong completed his medical degree through the University of Melbourne before obtaining his fellowship in Orthopaedic Surgery from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the Australian Orthopaedic Association in 2012. He then completed a year of international subspecialty training with world renowned surgeons in London at the Fortius Clinic, and Milan at the Istituto Clinico Humanitas.
Soong is highly regarded for his commitment to ongoing education and striving to achieve the best patient outcomes. He remains an active member of multiple specialty societies and recently completed his term as president of the Victorian Shoulder and Elbow Society. He has also served as Deputy Director of the Orthopaedic Department at Austin Health where he still holds a public appointment.
He was recently chosen as one of the lead surgeons for the introduction of Mako robotic technology for shoulder replacement surgery in Australia and performed the first robotic shoulder replacement at the Epworth Hospital in Melbourne.
As well as teaching at subspecialty courses, he regularly hosts surgeons in his practice and theatre to learn specialised techniques, is a co-supervisor of the Epworth Upper Limb Fellowship, and has been on the faculty at multiple international and national meetings.
Soong currently consults in Richmond, Box Hill and Heidelberg and operates at Epworth Richmond, Epworth Eastern Private Hospital in Box Hill, and Adeney Private in Kew.
